Hyundai Venue Expert Review

The Hyundai Venue is a subcompact SUV first introduced in 2019 and received its first major facelift in 2022. Suitable for everyday city commute or family needs, the Venue is positioned below the Creta in Hyundai’s product offering in KSA. The subcompact segment is a level segment for SUV buyers, and over the last few years, it has become increasingly popular among the Kingdom’s buyers as they move from sedans to SUVs. With a stylish exterior, refined and well-equipped cabin, along with robust powertrain, Venue is a compelling choice for buyers. Priced from SAR 72,000, it competes with Kia Sonet, Nissan Kicks and Toyota Raize.

Interior

Design & Quality

Hyundai Venue Interior

Hyundai always has this one big strength, visible across its entire portfolio, which is plush cabins that are loaded with segment-best features. Get inside the Venue, and you get to experience it without a miss. First impression is about how the cabin feels surprisingly premium for its segment. The two-tone layout is shiny, and the materials have that feel of well-put together and quite robust, looks like it was specifically designed for KSA weather conditions, which we all know how dusty. The plastic is easy to wipe clean, and even the fabric seems designed to resist fading under heat. With the facelift, Hyundai added an 8-inch touchscreen that feels smooth to use, and mood lighting gives a cosy touch at night. The seats are supportive, and the auto AC cools the cabin in no time. Compared to its direct rivals like the Raize or Sonet, the Venue comes across as quieter and more solid.

Front

Hyundai Venue Sunroof

Seat at the front, and you get a feel of a place to be at for a long time, comfy and cool. The seats are perfectly placed for a slightly heighted built persona like me, and the driver gets height adjustment for better visibility. The seating position feels slightly elevated, rightly so for an SUV, which I liked in traffic because it gives you a clear view of the road ahead, like a bigger SUV. The seat cushioning is firm yet supportive, so you do not feel tired quickly, another common aspect across Hyundai cars you come across.  Also, you notice a good attention to detail, and so the ergonomics are thoughtful, with controls within easy reach.

Electronic Parking Brake

The Venue does not feature an electronic parking brake, sticking instead to a traditional handbrake system. So, this may not feel like a premium aspect of the SUV, and we feel that Hyundai should consider this at least offer it in the high-end variants as an option.

Rear Seat

Hyundai Venue Rear Seats

The Venue is also popular among small families; they not just use it for city trips but also for intercity trips or road trips for days. And so the comfort at the back is paramount, and here you get surprised with the space, comfort and convenience. Although it is not the largest in the segment, the bench is supportive, and three adults can fit if needed. The rear vents make a real difference in summer, distributing cool air quickly. The quality of upholstery feels upmarket and quite easy to clean, and legroom feels adequate for daily commutes or weekend trips.

AC Vents

Hyundai Venue AC Vent

The Venue’s automatic air conditioning works quickly to cool the cabin even in peak heat, with vents placed smartly for front passengers and rear passengers benefiting from additional outlets. The system is quiet and efficient, ensuring long drives feel comfortable, with even cooling flow across all rows without fuss.

Storage

Hyundai Venue Rear Parcel tray

The Venue makes good use of its compact size with clever storage, and makes sure occupants don’t feel overwhelmed to carry their stuff. The glovebox is decent, door bins swallow bottles, and cup holders are practical for daily use. I liked the removable rear tray, which helps organise small items.

Arm Rest

Hyundai Venue Arm Rest

The Venue’s centre rear armrest folds down to add comfort on longer drives, with integrated cup holders. It provides practical convenience for passengers, making the cabin feel more passenger-friendly and functional.

Charging

As far as staying connected, it isn't a big deal inside the Venue. You get USB ports in the front, and depending on the trim, rear passengers also have access. Bluetooth pairing is seamless, and once connected, calls and music work smoothly. For everyday needs, it feels modern enough, though a wireless charger would have been a welcome addition.

Boot Space

Hyundai Venue Boot Space

The Venue’s boot is surprisingly practical for its size, and families will consider it as space is one of the key buying factors. The capacity of 350 litres is enough for daily needs or even weekly groceries or a couple of medium suitcases, and the removable tray is a neat touch if you want to conceal valuables. The loading lip is low, which means you do not have to lift bags too high. For families, that makes it easier to load strollers or travel gear. It is not massive compared to larger SUVs, but for city life and weekend trips, it feels well thought out and useful.

Exterior

The Venue immediately strikes you as a smart and compact SUV, something Hyundai is always known for, the elegant design. It is not hard to place it as a perfect city-friendly car. Its 3,9 meter length means slipping into tight parking spots is easy, yet it carries a presence thanks to the upright stance and roof rails.

The dark chrome grille appears sharper, and the LED MFR headlamps make it highly premium. Out on the road, ground clearance is enough for city bumps and even the occasional sandy patch. Weighing about 1,200 kilos, it feels light and agile but has solid road presence.

Front

Hyundai Venue Front View

From the driver’s seat, the Venue’s front end feels confident without being too loud. Elements like the wide grille give it a modern persona, while the LED headlamps and DRLs add to the overall design. In the facelift, as compared to its predecessor, its brightness has noticeably improved, which makes highway runs more reassuring. The fog lamps are well-placed and useful during special drives like fog or early morning when visibility is less. The cabin is literally quiet, something noteworthy for a car of this segment. The Venue manages to look premium but quite affordable, and so, buyers in this segment will like it.

Side

Hyundai Venue Side View

More than anything, I liked the side profile of the Venue, as it shares a lot of similarities with its bigger sibling, like the Creta. The clean lines make it appear more mature, the Chrome door handles add a nice glitter, and the electric folding mirrors not only look cool but also provide a lot of convenience in narrow streets. The shark fin antenna is nicely located, adding to the overall look. The roof racks can carry light luggage, which families will find useful. Getting in and out is relatively easy, good for family members. I have an impression that the sides feel solid, and the overall stance stays planted and looks appealing, just like a full-size SUV.

Alloy Wheels

Hyundai Venue Alloy Wheel

There are two options: 15-inch steel rims with covers on base trims and stylish 16-inch alloys on higher ones. The 16—inch alloy looks sporty and presents a sporty presence without affecting ride comfort. Tires like 195/65R15 or 215/60R16 for superior grip on city roads and also light sand, with durable finishes that resist scratches, dust, and desert heat.

Rear

Hyundai Venue Rear View

The rear design of the Venue is simple but mundane, rather effective. The LED combination lamps stand out at night and offer good visibility, and the high-mounted stop lamp is well placed for safety. A faux skid plate adds some sporty attitude without overdoing it, and chrome touches make it look a notch more premium, a signature of Hyundai when it comes to modern design. I also liked the way the rear camera is integrated, clean and functional. The tailgate opens wide, which makes loading luggage easier. Overall, the rear blends style and utility, which is exactly what most compact SUV buyers want.

Colours

You get to choose from several of the exterior colours, including Polar White, Titan Grey Metallic, Phantom Black Pearl, Fiery Red Pearl, and Denim Blue Pearl.

City Performance

Most of the buyers considering the Venue as their next SUV, are most likely to use it in the city. And with our experience with the car inside our cities, it underlines its overall practicality and usability. It is fair to say that this is a perfect city SUV.  The first obvious benefit is the size, which helps in quick U-turns, tight parking spaces or even congested lanes. The steering is light enough that parking in tight spots feels effortless. The 1.0L turbo engine appears small on paper, but in real life, it is different, giving you what you need the most: enough power to tackle traffic. I found it surprisingly peppy at lower speeds, and the 7DCT gearbox shifts smoothly most of the time. Fuel economy hovers around 15 to 17 km per litre, another key factor that works in favour of this SUV, not very expensive to run for a daily commuter. which means you are not stopping for petrol too often. Overall, it feels quite natural, effortless to drive and perfect for your daily use.

Highway Performance

Out on the highway, the Venue seems to be equally decent, comfortable to cruise at high speeds. settles into a comfortable rhythm. Overtaking is not a struggle either, as the turbo delivers enough torque to make passing quick and confident. If you switch it into Sport mode, the throttle response enhances considerably, which gives a bit more fun for those long stretches. The mileage is better on the highway, understandably so, as you drive uninterrupted. What impressed me most was how stable it felt even in rainy or windy drives, something smaller cars usually struggle with. Similar to long intercity trips, you won’t get tired easily, and it's fun to drive.

Ride and Handling

Hyundai Venue Side View Low angle

Certainly a big positive of the SUV, the Venue scores really well when it comes to overall handling and the quality of ride for driver and passengers as well. The suspension setup in the Venue strikes a good balance between firmness and comfort. The MacPherson struts up front and the torsion beam at the rear are tuned to feel stable without being too soft. In corners, there is some body roll, but it is predictable and easy to manage, so you feel confident behind the wheel. Steering is light in town but gains enough weight at higher speeds to feel secure. Even short drives over sandy patches showed decent traction for its size. It is not a hardcore off-roader, but as an everyday SUV, most buyers look exactly for that.

Variant

Right now, Hyundai retails three variants of the Venue in KSA, and you get to choose the best that suits your pocket and needs.

Smart

At SAR 72,360, the base variant with 1.0L turbo and 7DCT, and a decent amount of features such as standard AC, rear camera, touchscreen, 6 airbags, and 15-inch rims.

Comfort

At SAR 78,570, some extras on top of the base variants include alloys, chrome touches, auto AC, sunroof, and supervision cluster.

Premium

At SAR 84,780, the top trim is loaded with everything you wish for your SUV. This comprises full LED lamps, ambient lighting, TPMS, and folding mirrors.

Hyundai Venue Aerial View

Sayarabay Recommendation

Actually not a very hard choice to recommend, among the available three, to choose the middle variant is no brainer. The reasons are simple: At SAR 78,570, it strikes the sweet spot between value and features, something you want without overspending. There is a sunroof, supervision cluster, rear AC vents, and mood lighting without stretching the budget too far. Add the fuel efficiency of 17 km per litre, and this variant makes perfect sense for families at a reasonable price point, a great value buy.

Verdict

After spending time with the Venue, we can see why it is so appealing to young buyers and families.  Or what makes it that way. There is a lot to this compact Hyundai SUV that one might think on paper, in the real world, there is a lot to notice and pay attention to. It is compact enough for city life, yet it feels stable and refined on highways.

The facelift makes it even more appealing when it comes to exterior look, and inside, you get more features than expected at this price. Sure, it is not built for hardcore adventures, but you don’t even want it to be; there are other options for that in the market at a different price point. What it offers is practicality, efficiency, and tech in a well-rounded package. For anyone wanting a small SUV that looks stylish and delivers real-world value, the Venue should be on their list.
